nLIGHT is a publicly traded high tech manufacturing company with an entrepreneurial spirit. We design, develop, and manufacture high power fiber lasers for use in both commercial and defense markets. Our dual-use products are developed internally, include a large degree of vertical integration, and are manufactured at multiple sites, including at our headquarters in Camas, WA.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Finance Manager to partner with the manufacturing and operations teams led by our Chief Operating Officer. This is a high growth opportunity within a collaborative and driven finance organization. Our ideal candidate will be a strategic partner to our senior operations professional and be willing to work through the detail to enable data-driven decision making. Manufacturing and Operations experience is a requirement to be considered for this role.
This position will be working with all levels of the organization and will require someone with very high personal and professional values, strong leadership skills, and a desire to learn and grow with the company.
Functions
  • Modeling and Analysis - Support ongoing factory operations by developing regular and insightful ad hoc analyses. Partner with operations and other functions to identify the key drivers of performance and inefficiencies.
  • Financial Reporting and Support - Lead metric-based performance reviews to facilitate performance improvement and improve operational understanding. Develop financial reporting packages that help management run their operations more efficiently. Analyze financial performance and review accounting packages to ensure accuracy and provide explanations of trends and variances.
  • Operational Planning, Forecasting, and Budget Management Support -Prepare annual budget and ongoing forecasts for the worldwide operations organization. Lead forecasting of gross margin by partnering closely with sales operations and executive leadership team. Coordinate with budget owners and finance support personnel across multiple sites and regions. Support execution of forecast by monitoring spending, approving requests, and developing targeted internal review processes as needed.
  • Team Leadership - Lead projects and facilitate discussions across departments, functions and sites that result in better decisions and to improve reporting and processes within the company. Mentor extended team members and manage performance of direct reports to continue to grow the effectiveness and flexibility of knowledge within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or similar field. MBA or Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate finance, operations finance or cost accounting organization.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing required.
  • Experience in high-tech manufacturing is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, particularly as related to cost to manufacture and standard costing.
  • Power user of Microsoft Excel, Forecasting platforms, Query-based reporting tools (SQL, PowerBI), and ERP systems.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive multiple high-priority projects to completion and on schedule.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills. Requires ability to communicate complex information to management.

Starting pay depends on qualifications:
  • Senior Finance Manager: $130,000 - $150,000
